Do you need a place to stay during your abortion visit?

Our Justice is working hard to launch a lodging program that will connect hosts who have received training that is grounded in Reproductive Justice and focused on privacy, compassion, safety, non-judgement, with people accessing abortion care in the Twin Cities who cannot afford the cost of lodging.

The AAL Committee, began working with Our Justice in December 2015 to research and create the guidelines, policies, structures, and best practices necessary to create a sustainable and successful lodging program. They have already brought together and facilitated a training for a group of hosts who are willing to offer up their homes to break down barriers to abortion care. Our Justice’s Equity and Access Coordinator, who also manages the Abortion Assistance Fund, is ready and waiting to add lodging to the list of resources we offer people who call our funding line.

But there is one last piece we need to make this program work, and that piece is you. We need  a handful of people dedicated to abortion care access and Reproductive Justice to join the AAL committee and help break down the barrier of lodging for people accessing abortion care in the Twin Cities. Here are the major duties AAL Committee members commit to:

  • Providing training and support to lodging hosts

  • Fundraising

  • Reporting on the AAL program in collaboration with the Abortion Assistance Fund Manager

  • Being On-Call for rotating week long periods throughout their term (6-10 weeks a year), which means

    • Personing the Abortion Assistance Lodging Call Line, a resource specifically for hosts and lodging support recipients to use during the homestay process

    • Answering emails directed to the AAL Committee

    • Making updates to the host calendar and maintaining the host database

    • Assisting lodging recipients in transitioning to a hotel stay in the event of an emergency or unexpected host unavailability

  • For a complete description of AAL Committee Member responsibilities, please see the attached “Abortion Assistance Lodging Committee Member Position Description”

If you are driven to break down barriers to abortion care and the above responsibilities are within your capacity to take on, then join us.  Review the “Abortion Assistance Lodging Committee Member Applicant Questions” shown below and send your replies to, and a committee member will contact you about next steps.
