JOB DESCRIPTION 

Title: Development Manager

Supervised by: Development Director 

Status: Full-time, salaried 

Salary level: Manager

Pay: $65,000-$70,000 per year

Location:  Work from home, must be based in relative proximity to the Twin Cities, MN; co-working space available

Anticipated Start Date:  January 5, 2026

Organizational Overview 

Every day, people are making decisions about sex, pregnancy, and parenting, and many of them encounter enormous challenges due to lack of resources and support.  Our Justice has always worked to provide people with the resources they need to access reproductive care now, while also advocating for policy change that would make these resources more available and remove many of these challenges altogether. Founded in 1967 by a small group of doctors, clergy, and community members to assist Minnesota women in accessing abortion care, Our Justice continues to support people’s reproductive and sexual human rights. 

Position Description 

The Development Manager at Our Justice will play a crucial part in raising funds for the abortion assistance fund, helping to coordinate our annual peer-to-peer fundraiser, and managing our grant opportunities. The ideal candidate will have previous fundraising experience (including grants), event planning know-how, and a commitment to reproductive and racial justice.

Essential Job Functions 

Individual Giving and Operations (approximately 30% of the position) 

  • Assist in gift processing, including documenting gifts in CRM and providing receipts for offline gifts. 

  • Assist with donor stewardship and solicitation when needed including phone calls to donors. 

  • Assist with other fundraising campaigns as needed, including Give to the Max Day 

  • Assist in crafting and editing donor communications, as needed 

  • Manage and grow the monthly giving program

  • Coordinate supporter fundraisers

Institutional Giving (approximately 40% of the position)

  • Write and submit grant applications for new and existing funders 

  • Prospect new funding opportunities

  • Maintain grant tracking systems within CRM 

  • Serve as main point of contact for foundations, build new relationships with prospective funders, sometimes attending conferences or other events to make connections

  • Prepare and submit grant reports working with full staff to gather necessary data and narrative information 

  • Maintain grants calendar with application and report submission guidelines 

Event Planning and Fund-a-Thon (approximately 20% of the position)

  • Support planning and execution of event logistics for annual Fund-a-Thon Community Celebration

  • Coordinate in-kind donation and prize distribution for Fund-a-Thon

  • Attend biweekly Fund-a-Thon committee meetings during February - May

  • Support with Fund-a-Thon as needed including messaging and recruitment. 

  • Support event planning and execution of smaller donor events, including a fall donor appreciation event, and supporter planned events such as house parties

Other (approximately 10% of the position) 

  • Support the work of additional Our Justice committees as needed.

  • Actively participate in required convenings, summits, retreats, meetings, and participate in required virtual staff communications. 

  • Protect the organization by keeping information confidential.

  • Perform duties required of all staff to support smooth internal operations such   as submitting timely reports and reimbursement requests.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Director

  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by Our Justice, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations relevant to your role.

Travel Expectations 

Ability to travel locally within the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area is required. 

Travel precautions and suspensions will be made in order to ensure safety amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Qualifications 

Job experience requirements 

  • 2-3 years of fundraising experience

  • Experience in event planning

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with grant writing

  • Experience with CRM databases, ideally EveryAction

  • Compassionate, reflective, and able to work independently.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Development Director, staff, and board members.

  • Preference for candidates with lived experience accessing abortion care and working with marginalized communities.

Work Environment

  • Our Justice is led by a volunteer board and committees who regularly meet in off hours including evenings and weekends. Our Justice staff must be flexible and able to attend these meetings as much as possible, being able to prioritize their time in a flexible way. 

  • Must be able to participate in online virtual communications including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing. 

  • This position is full time, with the employee's regular full time schedule to be approved by the supervisor. 

  • Must be able to conduct business in English; however, fluency in languages other than English is a plus. 

  • Some work at off-site locations may be required; Our Justice aims for accessibility in any off-site location that we have control of, but some of them may not be fully accessible. 

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. This position is regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, via phone, and in person. 

  • This role requires frequent sitting.
